The history of any great city is an adventure, and the history of Turin is no exception. Indeed Turin dates all the way back to the founding of Taurasia two and a half millennia ago. Over the course of this long stretch of history, the city has been shaped by kings and emperors, splendor and decadence. The inexorable march of time has transformed the small Piedmontese village into a city, into the capital of a kingdom, into the capital of a nation, into the capital of the automobile, and finally into the multifaceted metropolis that Turin is today. This great city enjoys looking back at its past, but it also keeps an eye on the future. In six short chapters we have tried to summarize Turin’s exciting and illustrious history, and we realize that this whirlwind tour may leave you feeling a bit dizzy. But the city of Turin is only too happy to show you its history through its streets, piazzas, monuments, and museums, and actually the best way to discover Turin’s past and learn about its future is by experiencing the city firsthand.
