The theatrical scene in Turin should be able to satisfy everyone’s interests. It’s impossible to count the number of theaters, productions, companies, and also theater-goers. Indeed the reason why theater in Turin is so lively is precisely because the theater-goers of the city demand that it be so! Two of the theatrical giants are of course the Teatro Stabile and the Teatro Regio, although the latter offers mostly opera, music, and dance. For plays and comedies, there are the Colosseo and the Alfieri. Juvarra, l’Angolo, Teatro Settimo (run by Vacis, Baricco, Paolini, and company) are concerned with the cutting edge of theater and performance art. And we can’t forget the newly renovated Gobetti and the Gioiello theaters, the plethora of smaller theaters and companies which serve as a first stepping stone for the young actors of the region, and the numerous theatrical events held all over Piedmont. But this is just the tip of the iceberg – theater in Turin can easily stand its own when compared to the other great capitals of Europe.
