The location for this museum could not be more appropriate: on the noble (top floor) of Palazzo Carignano. The first national parliament met here, and the Italian Kingdom was proclaimed here in 1861. The museum collection clearly and completely documents the various stages which led to the Unification of Italy. The Subalpine Parliament has been conserved as it was in 1860: the seats of Cavour, Garibaldi, D’Azeglio, Gioberti, and Balbo are all indicated with red-white-and-green signs. The room for the Italian Parliament only served its country for a short while – the capital was transferred to Florence in 1865.
