Guarino Guarini

Guarino Guarini was born in 1624 in Modena. He entered the monastic order of the Teatini and then moved to Rome. When he returned “home”, he brought his love for baroque architecture to Piedmont. Over the two year period 1660-1662 in Messina, Guarini completed a number of important projects: la chiesa della Santissima Annunziata (church), la Casa dei Teatini, la chiesa di San Filippo, and la chiesa dei Padri Somaschi. After a separate stay in Paris, Guarini was called to the court in Turin. Conferred with the title of mathematician and engineer to Carlo Emanuele di Savoia, Guarini lived in Turin until 1681. Guarini designed a number of important buildings in Turin: la Cappella della Santissima Sindone (Chapel), Palazzo Carignano, lahiesa Teatrina di San Lorenzo (church), and la chiesa di San Filippo. He died in Milan in 1683.
