Despite being the piazza in front of the Porta Nuova train station, piazza Carlo Felice is beautiful and well kept (although not always the hangout of the best crowds). The piazza was designed by architect Pierre Barillet-Deschampes and built in 1861. In the middle of the piazza you’ll find the Sambuy garden which lends its space in summer to numerous shows and in winter to the large nativity scene by Emanuele Luzzati. Piazza Carlo Felice is surrounded by 19th Century buildings with porticoes designed by Giuseppe Frizzi and Carlo Promis. The Hotel Roma, where Cesare Pavese took his life, is located here, just a few steps from the station. |
